Leo Blamey
Leo was born and raised in the small fishing village of Mevagissey in Cornwall. With generations of fisherman behind him, the sea is truly running through his blood. Leo started his career with Imerys Minerals in 2004 working as a port agent and in general port operations. Leo qualified as a member of the Institute of Chartered Shipbrokers in 2010 and continued to work in port agency and chartering until founding Westerly Shipping and setting sail on a new voyage in February 2022.
A true problem-solving guy with the ability to think outside the box, remains cool under pressure. A strategist and a deep thinker with an eye for detail. Leo keeps the business sailing a steady course. A true, kind family guy with many friends and family in Cornwall. A proud Cornishman.
Peter Howells
Pete AKA ‘number 2’ as he likes to be called, being proud of the fact he was the second member of the Westerly team. Pete was born and raised in the historical maritime city of Plymouth, although he claims to be part Cornish! Apparently, his ancestors landed and settled in St Ives back in the Great Storm of 1703, we'll take that.
Pete is our boarding specialist; he’ll board any ship anywhere he tells us! So hopefully we can continue to keep him busy.
Ben Jones
Born and raised in Cornwall, Ben started his maritime career as an apprentice with English China Clay in 1999, which later became Imerys Minerals. Ben worked as a port agent before becoming agency manager and later commercial manager of Imerys Minerals non-clay port operations, responsible for the handling of aggregates, timber and non-clay commodities. Ben qualified as a member of the Institute of Chartered Shipbrokers in 2004 before becoming a Fellow in 2008. Ben continued to work in port operations, chartering and ships agency, joining Westerly Shipping as joint director in September 2022.
Ben approaches business as he does with life in general! That is to say ‘head on’ with relentless energy and drive, along with a ‘can do’ attitude. A determined and driven individual, upbeat and positive. A big heart, always willing to jump in feet first to help family, friends and customers alike.
